Picture that…

February 26, 2006

After listening to lecture 12, a few things popped out at me. However, going through everyone else’s posts, I feel as though they’ve touched on my points and is it worth writing again if you can’t add anything different/better?

I did start to think about a few things off-topic though during the lecture that still can be based off our lecture topic. The idea of straight guys acting gay for pornos was so fascinating to me. I can see why they would do it, since it pays a lot more. However, the more I thought about it, the more it was hard for me to imagine. Guys pretending to be gay and having sex with other males? How can they do that without being grossed out? Now to take this even further, I can completely imagine women pretending to be lesbians to make pornos. Yes, maybe you would think it is because I am a girl. I don’t think this is why. Women making out with eachother seems more acceptable, possibly because we see it a lot more. Plus, guys get turned on watching girls make out. I don’t think many girls get turned on watching two guys make out. It interests me that I automatically thought that straight guys doing stuff for money was gross, but I wouldnt think it was gross if it was girls. Especially since I wouldnt make out with other girls, even if I was drunk at the bar. But yet, it seems acceptable. This is definately something to spend more time thinking about.

Editor for the day

Here is the original post

If you were to state that men like to watch porn, you would not produce any surprised expressions.  For many of them, it is a way for them to see sexual acts that they would never be able to come across themselves.  However, does anyone stop and think about how their girlfriends or wives feel? Perhaps these women feel jealous or insecure?Do they feel that their men are watching this because they aren’t getting what they need in the bedroom? According to a website that I found most women are ok with their guy looking at porn. The messaging board has women in all different situations adding their comments on pornography, much like we do here.

Many said that as long as they don’t get obsessed, or find them less attractive that it’s ok.  It’s a way for them to get new ideas and turn them on to stuff that they may never think of. Almost like taking lessons from a professional, like a college professor. Also mentioned a few times is the idea that having your man watch porn is better then them seeing naked women in real-life. I think anyone would agree with that!

Women are the reason porn sells!

February 26, 2006

So I read this post about the pay difference between men and women. Yes, maybe it seems wrong, but think about it! I think it is safe to bet that a lot more men buy porn then women. Therefore, they are watching these videos to see the women. Now this wouldn’t pertain to man on man porn but I’m leaving that category out of this discussion. If the women are the reason these videos are selling, isn’t it only fair that the women are getting paid more? I do agree with what the poster said about the risks being equal. However, this is a business and like any other business it is all about the profits! My arguement is the opposite of the poster in that I feel that women should get paid more. There is a lot more expectations of them as well. I’m interested to hear a response from a male as well. Comments?

15 Billion? thats a low blow…. wink wink

February 19, 2006

I was reading how they estimated the annual revenue for prostitution in the U.S. and although the number seems high, I think it is too low! When you actually break down the numbers and analyze, it is very interesting. It says that if you use 500,00 fulltime prostitutes that only charge 20 each, you reach the 15 billion. Now we all know there are many many parttime prostitutes. That aside, Is it resonable to think the average charge is only 20 dollars?! I can’t even fathom this being true. Even if you made the average 40 dollars, it would be 30 billion dollars!!! WOW , right? Seems like such a big number. The best part about it is that most of the money is made illegally under the table! Just tihnk if they had to pay taxes on that. Maybe our country would have less debt! But I guess that it would be the same if drug sales were legal. That is not the answer so can you say prostitution should be legal? Probably not!

Pocket Porn

February 19, 2006

I saw Nightline on Friday Night and they had an interesting segment relating to our class. It was all about online porn on cell phones! Currently none of the major carriers( cingular, sprint, verizon) allow porn to be bought over their services. However, smaller carriers are jumping on board because they see the huge potential in this new technology. One of the big problems is that there is no way to regulate who is seeing the porn. It is a lot harder to track then internet sites. The government is already making a big stink about the whole thing before it is even mainstream! At the end of the segment they made a comment that tied everything back to our own class, because they said that the porn industry would be leading the way with this new technology.

To add my personal thoughts, is it REALLY important for people to be able to watch porn on their website? Do they get bored on the train commute and want to watch people have sex? Seems a little embarrassing to get all hot and bothered with people sitting all around you. If this is not the purpose, where else would it be appropriate to have porn on your phone? Hmmm. I’m all for porn but on your phone? Come onnn!

CHING CHING $$

February 17, 2006

I was reading Vanessa’s post about the amount of money spent by Americans on porn each year. I know that number seems like a huge number, even when it is broken down per person. However, you have to think about the vast amount of people that spend thousands and thousand of dollars. I looked on the playboy website to find some numbers to further justify this for you. Just to rent one erotic video on the Playboy channel can cost anywhere from 4.99 for just 15 minutes up to 64.95 for 600 minutes. It starts to make that number more reasonable just by looking at movie prices. Now think of everything else it includes! Im not exactly sure if you are talking about just advertising or everything in whole because you jump around, but America spends soooo much money on everything! We don’t realize just how many billions of dollars are made and spent each year. It makes you wonder why so many little countries are dying of starvation while we get our daily fill of porn. Sigh.

In case anyone wants more timeline stuff :-)

February 13, 2006

Now that the assignment is long since due I figured it would be ok to share this with all of you. I noticed we didnt end up with a lot of different events in the porn industry so here is a timeline created by the people doing a documentary on Deep Throat. Not every event is specifically porn related but it gives a nice idea of what was going on in society at the time as a reference. For example : 1976 – Top TV shows for the 74-75 season were All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Chico and the Man, The Jeffersons, and M*A*S*H

This is nice because you can see the events in the industry in that year and then see what shows were popular to see the huge difference in what was being shown in Adult Theaters and what was acceptable on TV.

Happy viewing!!
